The accredited course to enable Managers & Senior Staff to effectively audit medicines in their organisation to prevent medicines errors and incidents. Suitable for all care services.

This accredited half day Medicines Audit & Incident Management Course is aimed at Managers and Senior Staff who are either currently responsible for, or will be responsible for, carrying out medicines audits and managing medicines incidents. This course includes a combination of knowledge and practical activities to increase delegates’ confidence and competence in medicines audits and managing medicines incidents.

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

• Describe how to audit effectively
• Demonstrate how to use a risk-based approach to auditing
• Explain what can be done to reduce the likelihood of medicines errors occurring
• Describe the process of managing medicines incidents
• Identify when and how to report a safeguarding concern
• Identify any gaps in skills and knowledge and develop an action plan.

• Adopting a risk-based approach to auditing medicines
• Different types of medicines audit and topics that should be covered in medicines audits
• Identifying poor practice and common medicines errors
• Achieving good practice
• Managing medicines incidents including identifying contributory factors
• Recording and reporting medicines incidents including safeguarding
• Understanding processes, incident management and safeguarding case studies
• Action planning.
